Okorusu Mine, Namibia
This Fluorite was mined in 2003 in Namibia. Namibia possesses Africa's most developed mineral culture. The amount of detail given to collect specimens without damage, and to understand the value (as opposed to the many gem-rough communities across Africa who do not understand the need for such care), has given Namibia a unique opportunity to display a full range of specimens to the world, year after year! Africa has many mining challenges but Namibia is rich with opportunity, and has been visited for specimen collecting by foreigners for over 100 years! Since the closing of Tsumeb, Erongo has taken over as the Combo-King locality of multiple mineral associations. The diverse pegmatite there produces Aquamarine, Schorl, Fluorite, and Orthoclase! Sometimes even all together!! Erongo is famous for producing prolific Aquamarine specimen. Lesser known is that Eronga and its surronding region has a knack for producing odd twinning in fluorites, rarities such as Jeremejevite, and an array of mostly untapped tourmaline pegmatite fields!
