This specimen has a polished face. Lightning Strike Quartz was Scientifically proven by Luis Menenez that this is in fact struck by Lightning. It comes from Corinto, Brazil. It is also called "Design" Quartz by the Brazilians at times. The actual strike looks like a chiseled damage to the crystal that runs down the side, and sometimes crosses over the C-axis of the crystals. From looking at the patterns on the sides carefully, I personally think that all of them are lightning influenced, whether they have a strike or not. I deduce this because many times the patterning on the sides leads directly into the actual "strike". The ones without "strikes" have a patterning similar that looks as if Lightning has influenced the growth of the last set of atoms, creating the intricate "design" that the Brazilians call it by. These are rather rare, and have come to market several times over the past few years.
Brazil is the one country that has the largest network of specimen and gem mining in the world. It is well known for many of the world's best pegmatites, producing high class Gem Crystals. Brazil has the widest variety of multi-colored Tourmaline worldwide, and is semi-regularly producing new colors every few years. The vast array of Quartz varieties from Brazil deserve a book of their own.
