Messina Mine in Limpopo, South Africa
A Messina quartz of epic proportions. This crystal features a cocktail of diverse, colorful mineral associations, mostly present as inclusions inside the quartz itself. The main inclusion (worth hundreds of times more that its weight in salt) is ajoite, a rare teal copper silicate mineral. It is only found inside of quartz crystals from the Messina area of South Africa. This crystal also features red hematite, giving a generous coating outside and inside the crystal, with red piedmontite, as well as spindly crystals of green epidote. The termination is strong, and the whole crystal is extremely aesthetic. For a single crystal to showcase the diversity of inclusions at Messina, this is a great one!
