Manganotantalite is the most desirable and rarest member of the tantalite-columbite series. This rare earth element mineral is only known from a handful of localities, including Brazil, the Middle East and the pegmatites of New England. While most members of this group are opaque, manganotantalite can be translucent, like this one. It has a deep red color (good for species) with some translucent to gemmy areas. A substantial crystal for this rare species with lustrous faces, good size and a steep termination. A fine example of this rare and hardly seen mineral, in crystal form.
