Golconda Mine, Brazil
Apatite is a beautiful mineral that is important in the geological and even biological nature of our planet. Even our bones are made mostly of apatite! This specimen features a lively contrast of brilliant blue apatite crystals on a matrix of white orthoclase feldspar. It comes from the Golconda pegmatite in Minas Gerais, Brazil. This mine is known for its colorful assortment of gem crystals. The glassy blue hexagon shaped apatite crystals are mostly concentrated on the display face, though other areas of the specimen also show mineralization.
Brazil is the one country that has the largest network of specimen and gem mining in the world. It is well known for many of the world's best pegmatites, producing high class Gem Crystals.
