The Sapo Mine in Minas Gerais, Brazil is internationally recognized as a producer of fine mineral specimens that are warmly received by collectors of all ages. It is most known for its well formed hexagonal crystals of apatite and tourmaline. Here is an exceptional piece from a classic find, with a superb large apatite crystal, hosted on a pegmatite matrix of cleavelandite feldspar and platy muscovite mica. This large cabinet sized specimen weighs 2.75 pounds and measures 6.75 inches long. The apatite crystals are a pleasant green color, with high luster and some beautiful face markings. The crystals also contrast well with the feldspar matrix and mica, giving an artsy yet studious contrast to this aesthetic piece.
