The majority of Indian Quartz in the market comes from Karur in the South and many different areas in the far North high in the Himalayas. Karur is perhaps one of the most interesting Quartz localities in the world because of the strangeness of shape or, more aptly put, because of the "attitude" of the Quartz! Karur produces the famous Super 7 Quartz, popular amongst metaphysicists and metaphysical enthusiasts. Well known mainly for its Amethyst, Karur is perhaps one of the most interesting Quartz localities in the world! The variety of Amethyst shapes that come from Karur are astounding! Brazil made the Amethyst Flower famous, but Karur blew it out of the water! Now we aren't saying that the amethyst flowers from Brazil aren't amazing, but the BEST Amethyst flowers from India are FAR MORE impressive than the Brazilian ones in terms of color saturation, inclusion and shape!
Karur Amethyst will often take the form of scepters, both as individual crystals, as well as groups of crystals that make up the flowers and other odd shapes. Together this flowering and sceptering of the amethyst sets Karur apart in the Quartz world as something extremely special. Words cannot describe all of these variations in shape that Karur amethyst can take! But we can tell you that Karur Amethyst is worthy of attention. It has so many unique features based on the various pockets that are found. For example, much of the amethyst is included by a variety of colors of Hematite! What has been called Lepidicrosite and Goethite inclusions have both been studied and found to simply be different forms of Hematite. These colorful Hematite inclusions are what inspired the popular name "Super 7 Quartz". This is hardly scientific but we mention it because of its established market and the recognizable name that is desired in the quartz world by enthusiasts looking for a conglomerate of colored Hematite inclusions within the crystal. Another prominent feature of many crystals from Karur is a secondary growth that is strikingly different from the primary growth. Many of the scepters are formed as a second growth. We also find quite unusual situations in secondary growth such as amethyst on top but not below. Or the phenomenon of Artichoke Quartz, which is the growth of a grouping of crystals on top of a completed main crystal. Wow! Words become difficult to describe. Karur also produces the environment for Enhydros, or water pockets with air bubbles within the Quartz. This phenomenon intrigues even the novice Quartz collector! In fact, it excites people who know nothing about stones at all! To top it all off, Karur is one of only two locations in the world that produces Black Amethyst! Prized by collectors, this extremely dark Morion Quartz is quite rare in a natural non-irradiated form. To have a core of Amethyst is even more rare and highly desirable! The only other location we know of that produces this is a strange spot in Australia and we have only seen one piece, which is in our private collection. If you hear of other locations that produce Black Amethyst, please let us know! And if you have any quality Black Amethyst for sale, please contact us! We are always interested in expanding our private collection. Black Amethyst is a rare phenomenon that is quite difficult to keep in stock for sale.
